Within approximately two months, Illinois has collected more or less than $107,000 in taxes. Illinois began sales on Nov 9 and from that time to December, patients legally purchasing medical marijuana already spent almost $1.7M and growers earned over $1.5M in wholesale cannabis while also paying a 7% tax to the state.

There are twenty dispensaries legally operating in the state selling a gram of weed for approximately $15. It has also been reported by Illinois program director, Joseph Wright, that they have already served 2815 patients out of the less than 4000 registered patients since the program was launched in November.

With Illinois’ Medical Marijuana Program, several former law enforcement officials have taken the initiative to overlook the compliance of the dispensaries and patients to the state law.
